Rough Cut

  1. 0:00 - You will need to include studio and

distributor idents at the start. These should link to your opening credits

0:06 - presumably you will be including music over the top - what have you decided to use?

1:08 - I'm in two minds about the use of the book. On the one hand, it obviously fits in with the genre. On the other, it's hard to credit for range and variety. I wonder if there's some way of animating/ superimposing equations or something over the top to make it look more interesting. Also, I think you should cut rather than fade at the end of the sequence. You might want to speed it up slightly, to make it quicker.

1:26 - the range of shots here is better, but again, you need music/ voice-overs

1:34 - I would be tempted to suggest using a freeze-frame with the name of the character on it, similar to the way "trainspotting" does

It's hard to guage the effectiveness without the voice-overs. My main concern is the amount of time spent on the book at the start - as I say, I think you need something else there as well, to break it up. The main issues are, of course, the soundtrack. The use of camera and editing are both okay, and the conventions are being followed correctly. At the moment I would say that this is upper L2, with the potential to get into L4 if you do a good job with the soundtrack and the voice-overs.
